How to Make Gyros on the Grill
- 1). Cut the meat into half-inch strips and season with spices of your choosing. For example, spice lamb with lemon juice or beef with salt and pepper.
- 2). Preheat your grill to high. The gyros cook extremely quickly, and it is important to sear the flavor inside the meat.
- 3). Fill your skewers with the cut and seasoned strips. Slide the slices from the top the bottom of the skewer. One pound of meat will make around six skewers.
- 4). Lay a sheet of aluminum foil on your grill. This will protect the thin meat from burning and the wooden skewers from igniting.
- 5). Grill the skewers for 10 minutes, flipping occasionally for an even sear on both sides.
- 6). Stick a meat thermometer into one piece of meat. When the temperature is between 165 and 170 degrees take the meat off of the grill and allow it to rest for a few moments.
- 7). Slide the meat off of the skewers with tongs. Stack the meat onto pita bread with your favorite sauces and vegetables and enjoy.
