But in general any job that involves laying floor tiles will include:
- Preparing the base floor by cleaning it with a good cleaner to get rid of any oil or grease.
Remember the floor tiles will not stick to the floor if there is grease.
- Then taking a dry run to place the tiles as per your layout.
This will give you a fair idea on where you may need to make adjustments or cut tiles so that it fits well.
- Then apply the cement by a roller or a trowel.
It is very important that you lay the cement uniformly.
Wait for fifteen minutes after laying the cement.
Once ready, the cement should not be sticky.
- Finally start laying the tiles.
Map to your layout and place the tiles at their correct positions.
Do not slide the tiles on the cement.
This will cause undulated finished surface and will not ensure that the floor tiles are firmly laid.
When you reach the borders install the cut tiles perpendicular to the floor.
- Once the floor tiles are laid properly and pressed to the floor, apply grout over the floor using a rubber float.
Grout will fill up the gaps between the tiles and will give your floor a uniform look.
Often people use a locker to seal the grout joints so that dirt or grease does not accumulate in the grout joints.
As we all know it is difficult to clean grout joints.
Once you have laid the floor tiles, let the floor cure for a week or so and then give it a good mopping.
