How to Open a Bank Account in Iraq
- 1). Research banks located in Iraq that allow foreigners to apply for new accounts online. Note the type of account you would open. Compare bank fees and pay attention to initial deposits needed to open the account.
- 2). Email scanned copies of the following documents to the bank you choose: your passport or other government identification that lists your address and has your signature, a passport-sized photograph and a letter of authorization to convert U.S. dollars to dinari. Online applications assist you in creating a passport-sized photo. The authorization letter is downloaded from the bank's website. You sign the letter and then scan the letter for email delivery.
- 3). Wait to hear from the bank. After sending your documents, you are assigned an account manager by the bank. This person contacts you with information regarding your account, including your new account numbers. Your account manager instructs you on funding your new account. Turnaround time for processing new accounts is not very long.
- 4). Fund your new account by initiating a bank wire. Sample funding amounts require the equivalent of $150 USD and 300,000 dinar, or $450 USD, be placed in your account.
