    The Basics

    • First and foremost, you need to accustom yourself with learning how to turn the PSP on and off. The power button on the right side of the unit slides up to turn on. The charger that comes with the PSP works by plugging it into the small yellow hole located on the bottom of the PSP. It will take several hours to fully charge your PSP. Leave your PSP off while it charges.

Make sure you have updated your firmware to the latest version, as some games will not play unless you are using the most recent version. To install Sony's firmware, just update using the feature in the PSP's home menu, but you need to be connected to the Internet in order to update. Sony's firmware will allow your PSP to play PSP games, watch video, listen to music and browse the web.

    Internet and the Memory Stick

    • To connect to the internet, turn on your PSP, go to "Settings" and scroll down to "Network Settings." Choose "Infrastructure Mode" and create a new connection. Scan to look for your wireless network and choose it. If you have your wireless network set up with a password, enter it and save settings by pressing "X." If you have no password, save the settings and test your connection to verify everything went fine. If everything worked, you will be connected to the internet now.

To get some videos, music and pictures onto your PSP, first create three folders on your PSP's memory stick: "VIDEO," "MUSIC" and "PICTURES." PSPs can play MP4 and AVI video files. They can play WMA and MP3 audio formats. Supported picture file types are GIF, BMP, PNG and JPEG. Just copy and paste your videos, music and pictures into their respective folders.

    Playing Games

    • To play your PSP games, insert your game into the cartridge slot located in the back of the PSP. Navigate to the game menu, find your game and select it. To select your videos, music and photos, navigate to their respective menus and search through the different video, music and photo folders you have on your memory stick.
