Confidence is a highly valued and often misunderstood quality in our society. We are taught to believe that confident people are more successful and happier than their more timid counterparts. When it comes to marketing any business, confidence is a huge asset. Confidence can help you power through obstacles and take on challenges that other people would shrink from. If you look at the leaders in your industry, chances are they project an air of confidence which makes you trust and believe in them.

Many people mistakenly assume that confidence is about being loud or dominating but true confidence goes beyond the external. Many truly confident people are actually fairly quiet and unassuming. They don't sing their own praises from the rooftops but they get things done and rise to the top. The people making the most noise are often the least confident and can often resort to bullying and intimidation in an effort to make themselves feel better.
How do you know if you are truly confident and if you feel that confidence is lacking, how can you cultivate a more confident mindset? Here are some ways you can tell the genuinely confident from the fakers.

They listen more than they talk
Confident people don't need to push to get their voice heard. They don't have anything to prove. Instead they are interested in what other people think and ask them about their opinions.

They admit when they are wrong or they need help
Confident people aren't afraid to be wrong or to admit they need help with something. Nobody is always right and truly confident people know that making a mistake or asking for help doesn't affect their value as a person. It takes a lot of confidence to admit to a mistake and laugh at yourself.

They build other people up instead of putting them down
Truly confident people don't feel the need to put others down to make themselves feel better. When you are truly happy in yourself you want to spread the happiness and confident people often spend time building other people up so they feel more confident too. Confident people don't compare themselves to others, they only compare themselves to themselves and set their own standards.

They choose quality rather than quantity in relationships
Having hundreds of Facebook friends or casual acquaintances is less important than cultivating meaningful relationships with a few important people and truly confident people know this. They don't place too much importance on how many followers they have, but from the quality of the relationships with the people who really matter to them.
