Living Christmas Ornament

106 8
You can make this stylish, succulent ornament in about 5 minutes. It makes a great, inexpensive gift, perfect for a teacher or co-worker. All you need is a glass ornament, a few stones, some potting soil (special potting soil for succulents and cactus is best, but there is so little, I would use whatever I have lying around the house), and some hens and chicks (aka sempervivum).

You can usually find small glass ornaments at a local nursery or gift store, Pottery Barn, or online for under $10.

All you need is a tiny bit of soil, as the roots of succulents are very shallow, then plant your succulents by just laying them on top of the soil. Use the stones as a topdressing to cover the soil and you are done.

Be sure not to over water your succulent terrarium. It should get some direct sunlight, but not too much as the glass can act as a magnifier and can burn the plant.
