Value Hotel Selections
A value hotel won't come in as the cheapest option in your search for accommodations. In fact, it might be one of the more expensive places in your search results. But the hotels listed here offer great value for the cost. In other words, the amenities you'll find at a value hotel match what is found at extremely expensive properties. Make sure when you pay more than the average, you get great value. These places will allow budget travelers that infrequent but pleasing splurge. The key: look for special offers at these hotels, and be ready to move to cheaper rooms if the deals aren't offered during your visit.
In this historic resort known for wedding parlors, the Benton Place Inn provides a romantic spot for a honeymoon. This room has a fireplace and hot tub. A delicious continental breakfast is delivered to the room in the morning. Room rates are in the $155/night range, but on my visit the friendly owner was willing to negotiate a lower price. That won't happen during busy periods, but even at full price this place provides an excellent value. Read a review of Benton Place Inn.More »
When you visit this property as a budget traveler, you're inclined to snap a few pictures and perhaps have dinner before you move on down the road. It has the look of an expensive stopover with top-tier prices to match. In some ways, that is true. But the place will run specials at various times of year that can make it an affordable splurge. Special rates can bring the cost of a stay here down below $200/night. Read a review of Alderbrook Resort.More »

A few miles from the developing resort town of Boquete in the mountains of Panama is Rancho de Caldera, known not only for its accommodations and service but also for its meals. A world class chef is on staff here, and (for an extra cost) will prepare a nightly multi-course gourmet dinner. At about $30/person, these meals would cost perhaps three times that amount in an urban setting. Here, you enjoy the lower price and incredible scenery, plus all the recreational opportunities (including horseback stables on the property) that this area affords.
