This is what happens when you try to take a selfie with a moving train!

YouTuber Jared Michael inexplicably decided to take a video selfie in front of a moving train while vacationing in Peru.  He claimed he was "at a safe distance" from the speeding locomotive, but the train's engineer clearly didn't think so, because as the engine passed behind the teenager the man stuck out his leg and kicked Michael squarely upside the head.

This is why Jared made my list of 5 Totally Epic Selfie FAILS. 

The 10 Best Selfies of 2014: Run Selfie, Run

Kelly Roberts decided to add a little extra incentive to running NYC New York City Marathon this year by snapping twenty selfies with unsuspecting male runners who were grunting their way to the finish line. She shared the photos on her blog, RunSelfieRepeat, and the silly selfies went viral pretty much immediately. 

The 10 Best Selfies of 2014: The Photobombing Spider

These two girls were just lounging in bed, taking pics of themselves (yup), when suddenly a spider photobombed them.  And it was glorious.  You can see the whole sequence of images over on Geekologie.

The 10 Best Selfies of 2014: With Christ The Redeemer

Proving that he has absolutely no fear of heights, British photographer Lee Thompson climbed atop the famous 124-foot Christ The Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro in order to take these death-defying selfies.  Better him than us, right?  Yikes.
 

The 10 Best Selfies of 2014: The Photobombing Queen

Remember that time that Her Royal Highness photobombed a pair of Australian hockey players at The Commonwealth Games?  That was awesome.

Btw, this isn't the first time that Queen Elizabeth II has made our "best of the year" list.  She was also one of the 10 Best Memes of 2012.

In June 2014, actresses Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis recreated their very famous selfie from their classic 1991 film Thelma & Louise.  In related news, Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon apparently stopped aging about twenty years ago.

The absolute best selfie of the year happened during January's Academy Awards ceremony, when celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, and Kevin Spacey. This mega-star image was tweeted out by Oscar host Ellen Degeneres, and the tweet basically broke Twitter and set records by surpassing 1,300,000 retweets in just one hour.
