- 1). Place the tall bottle of your chosen bubble bath or lotion in the center of the cake stand--this will be the anchor for your cake. Put a rubber band over the bottle.
- 2). Fold your cloth or disposable diapers so they are around two-inches wide. For a cloth diaper, this means around four or five folds, and a fold in half to cut the height; for a disposable diaper, you should only need to fold in thirds. This is somewhat time consuming, as you should fold one at a time for the center diapers--for the outer rows of diapers it is fine to fold two or three at once--this does not damage the diaper.
- 3). Stretch the rubber band out from the bottle, and insert a folded diaper. Do this all around the bottle, so you have a sturdy center of diapers around the bottle.
- 4). Place more folded diapers around the outside of the inner core of diapers, folding in any additional baby items, such as bibs, beanies, pacifiers or nursing pads into the diapers as hidden surprises for mom or baby.
- 5). Tie a length of ribbon around the outside of the diapers once you have filled the base of the cake stand to hold them in place.
- 6). Place a second rubber band over the top of the bottle and insert a second tier of diapers into the elastic. Build the tier out until there is about three inches of space to the edge of the bottom tier. Tie a ribbon around the outside of the second tier, like you did with the first.
- 7). Tie together a third tier of folded diapers, about eight inches across. This can be done off the cake stand, then pinned on top of the second tier with safety pins.
- 8). Roll up the booties into little spirals, and tie them at the bottom with ribbon, pinning them at intervals onto the diaper cake for decoration--they look like little fondant icing flowers.
