How to Replace a Broken LCD Screen on a Laptop
- 1). Turn off your laptop, disconnect the power cable, remove the battery pack and any miscellaneous cables and/or external devices.
- 2). Attach an anti-static wrist wrap to your wrist, and then attach the wire clip to the laptop's casing. This will help prevent shock from static electricity.
- 3). Open the laptop as far as it will go. Remove the six rubber feet from around the edges of the LCD display. There are four located along the top edge of the screen, and two on either side of the screen at the bottom of the screen near the hinges.
- 4). Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the six exposed Phillips-head screws attaching the LCD screen's front cover to the laptop. Remove the cover and set it to the side. This will expose the LCD screen frame.
- 5). Remove the six retaining screws from the LCD frame. There are three screws located on either side of the LCD frame. Remove the frame and set it aside.
- 6). Disconnect the ribbon LCD video cable from both the logic board and the LCD screen, and then disconnect the inverter cable from the LCD screen.
- 7). Remove the broken LCD screen from the laptop and set it to the side.
- 8). Install the new LCD screen by repeating steps one through six in reverse order.
