Greenhouse Watering

101 12
When building greenhouse watering systems, there are many elements to consider. These include water requirements for plants, soil conditions, adequate ventilation (moisture control) and the practicality of your system design.

There are different types of greenhouse watering systems as well. You can design and install a totally automated system, one that you can put on a timer or controller and let the system do all of the watering, or a manual system that requires you or someone else to be there to do the work. The decision of automatic vs. manual is absolutely up to you and depends simply on your needs.

I personally enjoy automatic greenhouse watering systems for a variety of reasons. I like to grow plants and work in a garden, but I like to do other things as well – yes, I have other interests – and making things as practical and automated work well for me. I know other people, my father included, that enjoy watering. I don't get it exactly, but they do enjoy it.

If you aren't the do-it-yourself type, you may want to opt for having a professional irrigation company coming in and designing a greenhouse watering system. Irrigation companies abound right now in most municipal areas, but the design of your system and installation can bust a modest greenhouse/gardening budget. I enjoy building and creating as many of the little perks in my greenhouse as possible, so if you are like me, you will want to build it yourself.

You need to do a little research prior to building a system for your greenhouse and a good place to start is online. If you search out irrigation techniques and designs, you should be able to find some free online design templates that will help you along. Rain Bird sprinklers has a website that offers design information for you and will, for a modest price, design a system for you. You will want to make sure that you specify that your system will be an indoor greenhouse type of a system. You will want to make a map of your greenhouse providing specific information on plants and watering requirements.

If you want to design and build the greenhouse watering system yourself, then you will need to do the same thing as far as determining what your system requirements are. Once you have figured out your system requirements, then you will need to build. As far as materials are concerned, using PVC is a no brainer. PVC is inexpensive and very easy to work with. A variety of spray heads can also be found in many of the same stores as the PVC pipe.

Developing greenhouse watering systems is not a difficult task and is just another item in your greenhouse that can help you when it comes to being efficient and practical. A well thought out irrigation system for your greenhouse can make things a lot easier and can also help save water in the long term, just another greenhouse growing benefit.?
