- 1). Find out some sound or activity that makes your cat nervous. For instance, perhaps loud bells ringing frighten your cat. You do not want to choose an activity that hurts your cat physically or emotionally.
- 2). Do the activity or create the noise when you start your car in your driveway. Show your cat that it should typically be uncomfortable when it sees a running car. Your cat should begin to associate an unpleasant sensation with cars.
- 3). Encourage your cat to go to an outdoor crate when it sees a moving car. You should introduce the crate when the cat is a kitten to get it accustomed to going there on demand. When you make the unpleasant noise and start the car, show your cat that there is a treat in the crate.
- 4). Show your cat that it should not sleep on the car by making the unpleasant noise when it sleeps there. In addition, provide a warm place for the cat to sleep instead of the car. For instance, introduce the cat to a blanket in a shed.
- 5). Give your cat affection and attention after you make the noise that bothers it. You do not want to stress your cat out by making it afraid for too long. Keep training sessions short and cuddle your cat when the session is complete.
