Prisoner of Love

Luckily for Lucas, he was sprung from Statesville early, due to prison overcrowding. As a first time offender, he was approved for conditional release, but would have to wear an ankle monitor while under house arrest. A prison guard delivered Lucas to the DiMera mansion, where John, Marlena, Sami, EJ and the twins were living. Anxious to surprise Sami, Lucas ran upstairs to find her, but the surprise was on him.

He found Sami in bed with EJ. Although Sami tried to explain herself, Lucas wouldn’t hear a word of it and insisted they were over.

Soon, Lucas struck up a friendship with Chloe. The pair worked together to prove that Philip had been framed for setting John's warehouse on fire, as Lucas slipped off his ankle monitor to head out and do his sleuthing. Lucas and Chloe became lovers, when they were trapped in an elevator together during a blackout. However, when the power was restored, Lucas was discovered by the police and carted back to prison for breaking house arrest.

Desperate to be free, Lucas negotiated a deal with the Feds. He agreed to go undercover in a maximum security prison to get information on drug trafficking in Salem. In exchange, he would receive a commuted sentence. While Lucas got the information, he ended up badly beaten, when the prisoners caught onto the scheme. Upon being hospitalized, Lucas reevaluated his life and told Sami they needed time apart.

Over the next few months, Lucas worked hard to get his life in order.

He took a job at Titan, built a relationship with his daughter Ali, and spent time with Chloe. However, it didn’t take long before he was caught up in Sami’s drama, when he found her passed out at the DiMera mansion. He rushed Sami to the hospital, where she learned she was pregnant. Lucas realized the child was EJ’s, but Sami convinced him to keep it a secret.
The Chloe Chronicles

Lucas moved forward with his relationship with Chloe, who was by his side throughout Kate’s battle with lung cancer. Ultimately, Lucas proposed and Chloe accepted, even though she found herself drawn to Kate’s former lover and doctor, Daniel Jonas. On the night of Lucas and Chloe’s engagement party, Chloe shared a passionate kiss with Daniel. Before long, the pair were involved in a steamy love affair.

Lucas was devastated when Chloe called off their engagement. He headed to the Cheatin’ Heart and started drinking. When Maggie found him there, she told Lucas the truth about Chloe and Daniel. A furious Lucas left to confront them, but was seriously injured in a gas explosion outside Daniel's apartment. Upon awakening in the hospital, Lucas had no memory of what had transpired during his drunken stupor. Chloe, who was filled with guilt, begged Lucas for a second chance and they reconciled. Days later, the twosome eloped to Las Vegas.

Although Lucas tried his hardest to make the marriage work, Chloe couldn’t shake her feelings for Daniel, nor stay away from him. When Kate discovered their affair, she vowed revenge. She orchestrated an elaborate plot, poisoning Chloe and framing Daniel for the crime. Chloe ended up hospitalized, and Daniel became the prime suspect. Lucas believed it was because Daniel was Chloe’s spurned lover.

However, when Chloe regained consciousness, she told Lucas the truth: her heart belonged to Daniel and she wanted a future with him. Lucas turned to the bottle. Fortunately, Maggie, Will and Sami were able to convince him he needed help, and Lucas checked into rehab, after serving Chloe with annulment papers.
Starting Over

After finishing rehab, Lucas began getting his life back on track. He forgave Maggie for keeping the truth about Chloe and Daniel’s affair from him and tried to make peace with Chloe. He put his focus on his career, eventually relocating to Hong Kong to work for Hearth and Home. He returned to Salem briefly in 2010, when Alice became ill and, eventually, passed away.

In February 2012, Sami phoned Lucas for help, when her life was in shambles. (Rafe left her and Will turned his back on her, upon learning she’d slept with EJ.) Lucas showed up on Sami’s doorstep wanting to help her and be there for Will, who was going through a tough time. After Sami confessed her latest screw up, Lucas called her on sabotaging her life, yet again, but assured her that he would help her, because he still loved her. Sami admitted she loved Lucas, too, and the twosome hugged, knowing they could always count on one another.
