How to Build a Fireplace Display
- 1). Close the top on four 18-inch square boxes, while leaving one flap open.
- 2). Stack one box on top of another with the flaps opening to one side and tape the boxes together with masking tape.
- 3). Repeat Step 2 on the other two boxes.
- 4). Tape the flaps of the boxes together. From the top, the boxes look like a staple with the boxes themselves acting as the legs and the flaps that have been taped together connecting them. This is the hearth of the fireplace.
- 5). Mix red acrylic paint with a small amount of black acrylic paint on a paper plate
- 6). Use a rectangular sponge to put “bricks” on the boxes with the paint you mixed. Stamp the boxes using the sponge to create regular rows of bricks.
- 7). Tape two garment boxes together end to end. This is the mantel, which rests across the top of the hearth.
- 8). Paint the garment boxes a flat gray.
- 9). Secure the garment boxes across the top of the hearth with tape.
