How to Convert a Crochet Flat to Crochet in the Round

104 6
  • 1). End your crocheted rows on the right side of your piece. Do not make a turning chain or rotate your work as you would with rows.

  • 2). Insert your hook into the first stitch of the row you have just completed, making sure that the right sides of your crocheted fabric are facing out.

  • 3). Loop the working end of your yarn over the hook.

  • 4). Pull the yarn loop through the first stitch and the loop that was already on your hook. This stitch is called a slip stitch. Notice that the ends of your work are now connected in a circle.

  • 5). Refer back to your pattern for how many chains you need to make to start your round. For example, if your pattern stitch requires three chains to start a row to bring your hook and yarn up to the height of a double crochet, you will need to chain three to start your round as well. Each starting chain has an equivalent stitch height, so you will still need to follow this step of your pattern stitch.

  • 6). Omit the instruction to turn your work from this point on.

  • 7). Continue crocheting in the pattern stitch until you reach your beginning chain.

  • 8). Insert your hook into the top of the starting chain.

  • 9). Crochet a slip stitch to finish off your first round.
