Homemade Bamboo Clubhouses
- Selecting the right bamboo will lead to the best construction. Choose tall, straight pieces of bamboo for the outer walls. Look for any signs of rotting, cracking or other deterioration. Avoid these pieces, as they will not last and will provide weaker construction.
If you choose to create rooms within the clubhouse, select sound pieces of bamboo that are shorter than those used for the outer walls, or cut longer pieces into segments. These inner walls can be even shorter than the children who will play in the clubhouse; they need only create an illusion of walls. - Choose a flat, non-landscaped area on which to build the clubhouse. Anchoring the bamboo into the ground will be easier if the ground is soft or slightly damp. Avoid places with buried rocks or thick root systems that will make it difficult to drive the bamboo into the ground.
- Drive the bamboo sticks several inches into the ground, making sure they are strongly anchored and at right angles to the ground. They do not need to be placed directly next to each other but can be a few inches apart, creating the appearance of walls. Construct a simple rectangle, leaving at least one large gap in the bamboo for a doorway. Build any additional rooms in the same manner, remembering to create doorways.
