How to File a Complaint to the State Bar of Texas
- 1). Talk to your lawyer and attempt to amicably resolve the dispute with him. The Texas Bar concedes that some disputes are "best handled outside of the attorney grievance (complaint) system." Call the Grievance Information Helpline if you need help deciding whether you should file a report.
- 2). Download a grievance form from the Texas Bar Association's website. It is available in English and Spanish.
- 3). Complete the form as thoroughly as possible. Attach copies, not originals, of any documents that support your case.
- 4). Mail the form and copies of support documents to the bar's Chief Disciplinary Counsel's Office. The Chief Disciplinary Counsel's address is located on the grievance form. Alternatively, fax them the forms.
