Surviving The Earth Changes

102 3
We are already seeing more unrest in many countries on a scale that hasnt been seen since the French Revolution: more than 100,000 people poured into the streets in Yemen this week, in Egypt tens of thousands of people returned to Tahrir Square in central Cairo to celebrate one full month since the start of the popular revolution that toppled President Mubarak. In Bahrain, demonstrations blocked miles of roads and highways in Manama, the capital.

We are seeing discontent in many different forms and places: be it political unrest throughout the Middle East and parts of Africa, or social unrest with the riots and demonstrations seen over the last few months in the UK, Italy, France, Greece, and other parts of Europe, and in the US, with people arming themselves as never before and of course the proliferation of natural disasters.

With the price of oil exploding, the price of food increasing and the possibility of fuel and power shortages, what can we do?

We need to look at how to survive these events that are coming up. The ingress of Uranus into Aries is significant because we can expect to see these sudden events happening more frequently and more violently. Its going to become more and more difficult to be prepared.

For example, in Christchurch, another earthquake this week caused deaths, injuries and mass devastation a mere 5 months after a huge earthquake already hit in September of last year. This thriving city, the capital of the south island of New Zealand where thousands of people are suddenly without power, without water, sewage, possibly for weeks or even monthsso they have no internet access, the whole business district has been closed again possibly for months. Over 50000 people work in the central business district and can no longer access their workplace. Thousands are unable to go back to their homes as they are unsafe. Its all happened overnight. No warning, just chaos, devastation and destruction, together with powerful aftershocks that are ongoing and deeply unsettling.

There will be huge changes and they will be unexpected and sudden. We will probably have no time to prepare for them and its much harder to think straight or prepare when you are in the midst of a crisis. And dont for one minute think that your particular part of the world is going to be unscathed by these events. We are all connected more than ever before, and you too will be affected.

In New Zealand, Civil Defense has put out a preparedness list of emergency items that you need for your home which includes:
Torches
Portable, battery powered radio
Batteries for torch and radio
Non-perishable food (enough for at least 3 days)
- canned food, dried food, long-life milk, special dietary requirements
Can opener - (manual)
Water - at least 3 litres per person per day
Plastic storage containers and plastic bags
Emergency toilet
- plastic bucket, toilet paper, large rubbish bags
First aid kit
Essential medicines
Wind and waterproof clothing
Sun hats, sunscreen and insect repellant
Strong outdoor shoes
Blankets or sleeping bags
Face and dust masks
Gas barbeque
Pet supplies
Baby's emergency items
Getaway bag (a bag that can hold essential items if you have to leave in a hurry - toiletries, change of clothing, important documents and photos)

Other important things to add to your survival list are:
A bag with a few of your most important documents: birth certificate, passport, drivers license (at least copies of them).
A few first aid items, any medications you might need,
A warm sweater, a sun hat, needle and thread, torch, spare mobile phone charged up, spare battery for phone charged up,
List of names and contact details of people close to you, some cash, some silver, internet stick and if you wear eyeglasses, make sure you have a spare pair in a hard case so that they cannot get broken.

These events are going to happen more quickly and they will last longer and be more severe each time they occur.

Just remember that your particular pocket of the world will not be exempt. This is serious for all of us if we all start to prepare physically, we will feel more resilient and stronger. Then if you are prepared, if there is a crisis you will be able to help others who are vulnerable and who cannot fend for themselves.

In the longer term its important to think about becoming self-sufficient especially from the electricity grid. You will more than likely need a backup energy supply. But for right now, think about survival for at least 3 months in case you are without water, sewage, power, internet access and telephones.

These changes are going to last for at least the next 10 to15 years so dont delay making preparations in case food supplies and goods become scarce and it is more difficult to source essential items.
