How to Trim a Calla Lily
- 1). Watch the calla lily as it blossoms throughout summer. Clip off the blossoms with the pruning shears when they begin to fade to keep the plant attractive.
- 2). Remove seedpods as they mature by clipping them off at the base with the pruning shears. Leaving seedpods on the calla lily will use up valuable energy from the plant, possibly reducing blossoms.
- 3). Clip off any leaves that yellow or wither. Remove these leaves---using pruning shears---at the base where they connect with the stem.
- 4). Place in a bucket the blossoms, seedpods and leaves that you remove. Discard the plant parts in the garbage or compost them in your compost bin. Leaving removed foliage on the soil can contribute to disease and infection.
