How to Make Muzzle Brakes
- 1). Use a ruler or measuring tape to determine the exact diameter of the barrel of your gun; measure from outer wall to outer wall, rather than just the barrel opening.
- 2). Buy a 6-inch-long cylindrical steel tube (obtainable from a hardware store), ensuring the tube's diameter matches that of your gun barrel. The tube's walls needs to be 1 inch wide.
- 3). Place the steel tube inside your boring machine. Widen the diameter of the tube by thinning the outer walls to 1/2 inch. Do this only for the first 3 inches of the tube.
- 4). Shift the tube back and forth on your boring machine in order to make a smooth taper that can center your muzzle brake on the barrel. This also keeps your muzzle brake from slipping off the gun.
- 5). Use your metal saw to make six circular cuts, about 1/3-inch thick each and 1/3 inch apart from each other, into the upper and lower parts of the muzzle brake.
- 6). Use your drill to create a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom of the muzzle brake's tapered end.
- 7). Now you can use your 1/4-inch, flat-end screw to secure your muzzle brake to your gun's barrel.
