Piramide de Mayo

Thoe pyramid is the first official monument in the city of Buenos Aires. Built to commemorate the Independence of Argentina, the monument was dedicated on May 25, 1811 on the Plaza de Mayo.
Over the years, the monument was renovated, redecorated and moved to its present position. The figure atop the pyramid represents Freedom. Standing, 18.76 m, the base of the monument is adaorned with representations of historical figures.

In March 2005 the city of Buenos Aires declared this an Historical Site and painted on the ground the white handkerchiefs which are symbolic of the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo.

In December of 2005, the ashes of Lily Villaflor, the founder of the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo, were interred next to the Piramide.
