Vial Adaptor - An Important Component of Closed System Drug Transfer Device

Healthcare units have already formulated the safety guidelines to minimize the scale of contamination of professionals exposed to hazardous drugs.
The increasing concern on the safety of these staffs enabled the healthcare units to adopt needle-less systems, that will provide safety to workers against the accidental injuries from needles.
A vial adaptor is one of the safety devices that are suitable for use in the transfer of fluid from a vial to a needle-less syringe.
It has the top end sealed with a septum.
Its body has three parts.
These parts include one top end, a bottom end and an inner cavity.
The inner cavity is designed to receive the vial and the bottom end extends below the bottom end of the vial.
There is a needle mounted within the body that is used for puncturing the septum of the vial disposed in the inner cavity.
A luer-lock is mounted on the top end of the body.
It has a top end and a bottom end separated by a radial wall.
The top end is known as the female luer-lock.
There is also a valve that is disposed within the luer-lock bearing member for controlling the fluid from the bottom end to the top end.
This valve gets opened by the insertion of the needle-less syringe to the vial-adaptor.
This vial adaptor is designed to fit all the standard syringe units.
It is a sharp plastic device which replaces a fill needle for accessing the medications and making the syringe filling completely needle-free.
Thus it is a reliable method for the withdrawal of medications and the transfer of harmful drugs for reconstitution process without the use of a needle.
Thus these are the systems that use no needles at all, removing the risk of needle stick injuries.
