Ideas for Masquerade Masks
- Masquerade masks that cover just the eyes can range from the basic to the extravagant. If you want to play it safe, eye masks with a shimmery fabric front are always a classy choice. To spice it up, use a mask in a different shape -- butterfies, kittens and other animals are common options. If you want a more unique look, buy an eye mask that is pre-painted with one of a variety of different designs.
- Carnival-style masks involve more complex shapes and decorations. Masks with intricate patterns around the eyes are a good start. Masks with exaggerated noses, or that cover the face asymmetrically, are good options and usually come in intricate patterns. Masks that cover the entire face are good ideas too, and include more elaborate jewels and painted patterns in bright colors.
- Feather masks incorporate feathers of all colors, shapes and sizes -- sometimes at the same time. The key is deciding how you want your mask to look. Arrange feathers to sweep back over the head, or let them stick straight out. Some feathers are attached asymmetrically to one side, and others are distributed evenly across the top of the mask. For example, short fluffy feathers make effective eyelashes for a carnival-style mask.
- Half-face masks tend to be the most complex and artful masks, and sometimes cover more than half the face. These masks are considered more masculine and tend to come in male-oriented designs. An example of a half face mask is the classic "phantom" mask -- a style that remains popular.
