There are a few things to consider before you build a chicken coop run.
Having a safe and secure coop where the chickens can have a place to go inside out of the elements of the weather and predators and a run where they can go outside to get exercise and fresh air.
There are a few things to take in consideration.
Location is very important when building and placing your chicken coop run.
It should be kept away from places like woods, long grass or dense growth, where predators can hide.
Its best to keep the chicken run more in the open and away from dangers such as snakes, foxes, dogs or other wild animals that could be lurking in wooded or heavy growth.
Depending where you live and what the dangers are, will determine if your chicken coup run will be fenced in or if the chickens will have free range.
If they are free range you will definitely have to lock them up before dark to protect them from predators.
When putting up the fencing (chicken wire), make sure it's properly installed.
You want to keep the chickens safe and the predators out.
Always bury your chicken runs with chicken wire.
By laying the wire on the ground and covering it, will prevent predators from digging under the run.
Curving the fence outward and burying it, the predator, will dig right into fencing.
You can also consider putting a concrete floor in the chicken run, which also helps in prevention of predators from getting in.
Always keep your chicken coop run free of any objects that can cause injury to your birds.
Remove any nails that are protruding, ragged chicken wire that can cause cuts or harm to your chickens, even electrical wiring for lighting in the coop.
Extra measures will save you your chickens and your coop unnecessary injury and damages.
