Hoses and Their Uses

103 9
All of us must have come across hoses in our lives.
They are present almost every where; in our homes, in the industry and almost every appliance.
Hoses make the transfer of fluids much easier, faster and more efficient than other typical methods such as canals in farming that transport water from the main area to the fields.
In the case of irrigation of water in farming, the typical method would take much longer as compared to pipes or hoses being used.
Sometimes, they are even used to transport gases from one place to another.
By definition, a hose is a tube that is hollow on the inside and is used to transfer fluids from one point to another.
They can sometimes be referred to as pipes; however the word pipe refers to a rigid tube.
A tube is usually flexible and cylindrical in shape.
The material that makes up a hose can vary in different situations.
To determine if a certain hose is suitable for the job, one must take into consideration the material the hose is made up of, its strength, size and the purpose it will be used for.
Rubber hoses usually come with attachments so that they can be fixated to a machine or device.
A rubber hose can be made of natural latex which is also known as synthetic rubber or simply rubber.
Other material that hoses can be made from are plastic, silicone or some specialized man made materials and they can be equally effective on the task as rubber or synthetic rubber hoses.
On the other hand, natural rubber hoses have their own advantages.
They have great elasticity, ability to withstand high temperature and pressures and can be produced using lesser resources as compared to synthetic materials.
Another type of hose is the Teflon hose.
Its application is similar to the rubber hose and it is designed in such a way that it can meet the requirements of higher operating pressures and temperature, usually in aircraft systems.
Stainless steel is braided over the tube so that it can provide strength and protection.
A huge advantage in using Teflon hoses in mechanisms that involve fuels or oils is that it is corrosion resistant against every known form of fuel or petroleum.
There are a vast variety of hoses available in the market, but a user must be aware of what they are designed for in order to be able to choose the right hose for the job.
