Dating Advice - 5 Tips For Planning a Romantic Date

There are so many ways to plan a romantic date that it's hard to just pinpoint five tips. So let's just have five general categories and lots of ideas.

First of all there's the planning part. It's what separates the men from the boys (or the women from the girls.) If you want impress your honey, think about the date beforehand. Dinner and movie is nice. But how many more interesting things are there to do if you put your mind to it? Look in the newspaper and see what is going on. Is there something that the two of you would enjoy? Does she like antiques? Plan on taking her to an auction in that quaint little down town an hour away. Get reservations for dinner after. Use your noggin! Planning says "I care."

Surprise your date with something a little different. Give your date a time and an idea as to how to dress and show up with a little gift. Get a corsage and take her to the prom you have to chaperone. It'll be your first one together ever! Find the museum that has the information about her family and take her there. Bring umbrellas for a romantic walk in the rain. Maybe you might like to pack a picnic and a bottle of wine and take her to the park for a moonlight picnic.

Be creative. Don't fall into the same old patterns. There's more to do than the aforementioned dinner and a movie. What's more romantic than a walk in falling snow on a winter's evening, holding hands, with cocoa after? The best part of the date may be that you thought of it and suggested it. Or make your date dinner – or have it catered if you can't boil water. Or dress up to go someplace. Make it special.

Learn about your date. Find out what interests her. Is she a secret ice hockey fan? Get a couple of tickets to a local game. Does she love to quilt? Suck it up and take her to the quilt show. There will be times she has to "suck it up" too.

Have a sense of humor. The best made plans sometimes go awry. Did you burn the dinner? Laugh it off and call for takeout. Do you have a flat tire? Call Triple-A and cuddle in the car. Are you broke? Spaghetti and salad at your place has all sorts of possibilities. Make sure to rent a good romantic movie and have a few scented candles at hand.

My son recently told me about a very romantic date that his girlfriend planned. He had to work late so she stopped by and got the keys to his apartment. When he got home, she had not only cleaned the apartment but had made a lobster dinner with the works. Really, what more could a guy ask for. Or a girl.
