Woodward Light Rail: A Proven Investment In Detroit" s Future
Travelling through the hustle and bustle of the traffic on American roads can be a really tough job to fulfill. If an opportunity of travelling in an air conditioned and soothing environment, surpassing the suffocation of traffic, is provided, it can prove to be a blessing for the soul. The convenience of rail lines not only makes travelling easier, it also imparts punctuality to the schedule of the employee, and thereby profiting the authority he or she is working for.
In the recent past, the opening up of rail lines in Dallas not only made the lives of residents easier, it also created about 32,000 jobs, a 33% increase in retail sales, 40% heightening in nearby property prices and much more. Following the trend and aspiring to achieve similar results, Detroit is now opening its first rail line on Woodward Avenue.
Detroit has taken the initiative of cooperating with many well known institutions and business companies in order to make this plan a success. The rail line on Woodward Avenue is proposed to be an electric rail which would run through Woodward Avenue connecting many students to their institutions, employees to their workplace, commoners to local hospitals and many people to their respective destination. It is also believed that this project would help breathe new life into Detroit. Mayor Bing also commented that this place is the center for attracting 15,000 new residents, thereby having the potential of boosting many businesses.
Dan Gilbert, Chris Illitch and Roger Penske are a few of the many interested businessmen who believe in the potential created by this rail line so strongly they are investing their own money in this project. Travelling by rail is not only limited to cities like Chicago and New York, this phenomenon is now common to many cities and districts throughout North America. This system of light rail transport not only benefits low income workers but also provides well-off business-people to avoid the inconveniences caused by traffic.
Travelling now is no longer optional; it has now become a minimum requirement for survival in this competitive world. People today would like something beyond the problems like insurance recovery, rising gas prices, multiple car problems, etc. There are many youngsters who would now like a peaceful walk or ride to their respective destinations, like school or a local coffee shop. Developers and businessmen, understanding this inclination of the masses, have started initiating the development of institutions, workplaces or even local markets and coffee shops near the rail line. Development of these kinds of infrastructures need manpower, this creates many job opportunities and provides for the initiation of economic development. Even though the final approval and other complications remain to be sorted out, looking at the popularity and success of other well-thought-out rail lines, this formality should be cleared conveniently and soon.
