Refacing Bathroom Vanities
- 1). Clean the counter with bathroom cleaner to remove any buildup, and then dry it off.
- 2). Sand the surface of the counter and sink to rough it up. The primer will bond better if the slick surface of the vanity is removed. Use a power sander to make it easier work.
- 3). Tape off the walls and cabinets of the vanity to keep paint from getting on them when you paint the edges.
- 4). Paint the counter with a high bonding oil primer. Use a paintbrush and paint in even strokes, coating the counter and sink. Let it dry for two or three days.
- 5). Paint on the acrylic paint in the same way as the primer. If you want to create a stone look, apply two other colors on top of the base coat with sponges. Typically, you would use a main color that is most prominent besides the base color. Then dab on a light color for accent. Let the paint acrylic dry for a couple of days.
- 6). Brush on a polyurethane coat to cover the paint and give it a hard finish. Let the coat dry overnight, then sand the surface lightly. After sanding, brush on a second coat. If you want to ensure a strong surface, apply at least three coats.
