Foot Blisters - Who is at the Most Risk and How They Can Be Treated

It is not uncommon for the average person to get blisters on their feet.
It doesn't take much to be the recipient of foot blisters.
When you are walking or running, your shoes are putting pressure up against your feet and there is usually a lot of extreme friction going on between your foot and your shoe.
The skin can take a lot of pressure, but over time, it will eventually break and this is where blisters come from.
Athletes are especially prone to getting blisters on their feet due to the amount of running and exercising they are constantly doing.
If you find yourself stuck with a blister on your foot, remember that it is extremely important that you never break or bust the blister open.
A majority of small foot blisters will end up healing on their own.
For the athlete, however, this can a be a very daunting task, and sometime painful task as you will be advised to discontinue the activity or to stop wearing the same shoes that caused the blister to begin with.
For an athlete that is constantly doing some type of physical activity, this advice can be quite a hindrance.
Luckily there are some things you can to help the foot blisters healing process speed up a little.
Be sure to never pop the blister as this will only slow down the time it takes to heal and can even lead to an infection down the line.
If you leave it alone, most likely it will heal up on its own as the blister reabsorbs itself back into the skin.
Sometimes, however, blisters can be pretty painful and that is where you might need some help.
Although you shouldn't pop the blister, if it is hurting you too badly, you can stick a needle in it to drain the blister, but be sure to leave the top, or the "roof" of the blister alone.
Once you do this, put a clean bandage over it.
Once your foot blisters have healed, the step is learn about how to prevent them from returning so you don't have to deal with them again.
This best thing anyone can do to prevent blisters on their feet from forming is to wearing shoes that fit comfortably and are not too tight.
This is especially important for the athlete.
Wearing shoes that are too tight, especially while you are doing any type of physical activity, will only speed up the formation of a blister on your foot.
