  San Pedro is the home of the Port of Los Angeles, so any kind of ship you want to travel on is available. But if you're looking to cruise from the Los Angeles area to Alaska, your choices are more limited. Most Alaskan cruises leave from the Pacific Northwest, but Norwegian Cruise Lines has a direct trip from Los Angeles to Alaska. All prices listed are for the May 2011 trip.
  
  

Cruise

• The Norwegian Star travels from Los Angeles to Juneau, Ketchikan, the Inside Passage and then Vancouver every May. In addition to Alaskan ports and views, guests can enjoy the Second City Comedy Troupe, a spa, nine bars and lounges, casinos, kids clubs, sports clubs, a fitness center, pools, hot tubs and an open air beer garden.
  
  

Price

• This ship has a number of accommodations options and corresponding prices. Guests can share an inside room with no view for $499 per person or a three-bedroom garden villa with hot tub, garden and butler service for $7,049 for the first two people and $249 for each additional person. In between, there are ocean view rooms for $599 per person, balcony rooms for $949 per person and suites starting at $1,199 per person.
  
  

Extras

• All room prices include huge buffets and fine dining. For an additional fee, guests can also enjoy French, Japanese and/or steakhouse cuisines. Guests can also book excursion trips for their stops in port. One popular excursion in Juneau is the Mendenhall Glacier and Juneau Hatchery excursion, which gives you a chance to walk to a glacier and see a salmon hatchery for $59 per person. Another popular excursion is the whale watching and wildlife quest aboard a specially designed catamaran for $142 per person. Excursion prices range from $27 per person to $199 per person. Prices for children are usually half the adult prices.
