Engine and Transmission

• The Base Firebird has a 3.8-liter V-6 engine with 200 horsepower (hp). The Trans Am and the Formula have 5.7-liter V-8 engines that produce 285 hp. The Base was equipped with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission, both of which included overdrive. The Trans Am and Formula included either a six-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, both with overdrive.
  
  

Fuel and Brakes

• The 1996 Firebird has a 15.5-gallon fuel tank and the car runs on regular unleaded gasoline. The Base model includes front disc brakes and rear drums. The Trans Am and Formula have disc brakes on all four wheels.
  
  

Features

• Features shared between the three versions include driver and passenger airbags, power windows, a convertible roof with glass rear window, and a rear spoiler. Options such as remote keyless entry, CD player and leather seat trim were available for all versions.
