Trichinella spiralis Immunomodulation
Trichinella spiralis Immunomodulation
Trials with live helminth therapy are encouraging, however it may be psychologically hard to accept by some patients and it may have some drawbacks. Therefore, it is expected that the identification and purification of helminth-derived molecules to exploit highly purified safe helminth products will proceed in order to prevent allergic and autoimmune diseases. Antigens from all life stages of T. spiralis could be involved in the immunomodulatory process, so different antigens from the different stages could be investigated; these could include, for example, crude adult or muscle larvae antigens, ES products of adult or muscle larvae and newborn larvae antigens (Box 1).
