Installing Decals on Painted Wall

Can you install vinyl decals on painted walls? Of course, it's a yes. When you intend to put decal graphics on your wall, please be sure that that wall itself is clean and free from any sort of oily grease.

To make sure your wall is clean, you can do two things. First is to make use of a degreasing soap like the trisodium phosphate, which you can buy in most home improvement stores. It is usually in a form of powder.

Clean the wall with soap and water. Wash and rinse thoroughly. You might be surprised at how greasy your wall might be as you won't literally see the grease with your bare eyes. The rationale for that is because like your breathing human self, your house is able to take air in and out. This is similar to a lung of a person that smokes. Bad tissues build up with time even if air is filtered fairly well.

Second is to establish a new clean wall, where you can put your graphics decals on, by painting it. One note though, if you are going to paint or re-paint your wall, you still have to ensure it's pretty much free of the grease before you commence the painting. This ensures that the paint adheres better onto the walls that when you try to remove wall decals off, the paint won't go along with the adhesive of the graphics.

Sticking Decals on Painted Wood

Have you ever wondered whether or not you can stick your decals on painted wood? Well, actually, you can, depending on two things.

First thing is the roughness of the wood material. If it is very rough, you need to sand it well and then paint it. After that, you can put your decal onto it.

The next thing is how long the wood has its paint on. If you just painted your wooden wall and you've already sanded it or it's quite smooth, wait for at least 2 weeks before you actually stick your wall decals onto it.

Waiting for at least 14 days ensures that paint have really dried up and absorbed by the wooden wall. This is helpful when you attempt to remove your installed decals as you can be sure that the paint of the wall won't come off along with the removed backing adhesive of the decal graphics.
