Using Wholesale Flowers to Create Boutonnieres and Corsages for Your Wedding

There are plenty of ways to try and trim the cost of your wedding budget. One of the details on which you can save some money is the boutonnieres and corsages. By buying wholesale flowers and creating these items yourself, you can save significantly over buying them from a traditional florist.

Some brides use wholesale flowers for all of their wedding flower needs. This includes bouquets, arrangements and table centerpieces. If you do not feel that you have the skill or time to use wholesale flowers for everything, using them just for the boutonnieres and corsages can still offer a savings.

Make a list of everyone that will need boutonnieres and corsages. This includes groomsmen, ushers and any other wedding helpers and special guests that you want to include. Once you know the number of boutonnieres and corsages that are needed, you will need to select the type of flowers.

Many choose roses for boutonnieres, but you are not bound by this. You can choose any flower that you love and that will complement the rest of the colors in your wedding.

When you place your order, you may want to order a few extra of each type of flower just in case you make any mistakes while creating the boutonnieres and corsages. Other items you will need include greenery or baby's breath, floral tape, floral shears and straight pins.

Ideally, you will create the boutonnieres and corsages the day before or the day of the wedding. Then, keep them in a refrigerator to maintain freshness.

Corsages

The type and size of the flower will determine how many flowers you need for each corsage. Obviously, smaller flowers will require more blooms. Some brides make corsages in varying sizes. For example, the wedding singer may be given a smaller corsage than would the mothers and grandmothers of the bride and groom.

Once you decide on the number of blooms, you will need to trim away much of the stem, but leave enough in order to bind the flowers together. Once you have trimmed the flowers, hold the stems together and wrap securely with floral tape. Add a bit of greenery and baby's breath and attach that with floral tape as well. Finally, stick a straight pin in the stems so that the recipient will have a way to secure the corsage onto her outfit.

Boutonnieres

For boutonnieres, simply trim most of the stem away using floral shears. Next, wrap the stem several times with floral tape in order to create a secure base for the pin. Add a bit of greenery and floral tape and wrap a couple of times with the floral tape to secure. Add a pin to the stem.

As with the corsages, some brides may make boutonnieres in a couple of sizes. Most will have just one rose while some, for very special male guests, will have two.

Creating your own boutonnieres and corsages using wholesale flowers is a great way to save money on your wedding flowers without having to invest a lot of time.
