How to Build Static Electricity
- 1). Dress yourself as a capacitor (a storage unit for electrical charge) -- for the best capacitance, wear: cotton jeans, wool socks, cotton t-shirt, and perhaps a wool sweater.
- 2). Find a flat, synthetic carpet, like those found in office buildings. If using an office, or an apartment, and it's heated with electrical heaters, then all the better -- the air will be much drier. Use a crisp, dry air environment for the best results.
- 3). Scuff the floor in your socked feet for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes -- during dry seasons like winter or fall, less time is required. During more humid seasons, more time is needed. This will build up a charge within your clothing, which will later be discharged through your body into your victim.
- 4). Do not touch anything metal before you reach your victim of choice. If you need to approach your target to deliver the shock, keep rubbing your feet on the carpet while you do. You only need to barely touch your target -- the best place to do this is on the back of the neck.
- 5). Deliver the shock! For the biggest bolt and sharpest sting, jump a couple of inches from the floor just before you make contact. By closing off contact with anything other than your victim, this has the effect of multiplying the overall capacitive voltage and can result in a shock large enough to produce a visible spark.
