103 10
If you love and own felines, learning how to house train cat is near enough essential.
You don't want your cute pet leaving surprises for you all over your home.
To train your cat will take a lot of patience and determination, but it can be achieved.
The first thing that you'll need to do is get a litter tray or box.
This needs to be of a size in which your cat or kitten can move around in without too much of a problem, and also easily get in and out of.
In the bottom of the box you will need to place a few couple of inches of cat litter.
There are many different litter products available from your local store.
Some owners choose wood shavings, others blue crystals.
The priority is that it should be a substance that is easy to clean and also hides odors.
Once you are happy with the litter box you need to find a location to put it.
This should be somewhere quiet that doesn't get disturbed.
Don't place the litter box in the same room as the cat food or the cat's bed - would you do your business in the same room that you eat or sleep? Neither would a cat! If your cat or kitten has been relieving itself in various places of your home it is essential to give these areas a thorough clean as cats have a strong ability to sense scent and may continuously use that location as a toilet, also it may encourage other cats or kittens to do the same.
Next comes the difficult part.
You need to get your cat to use the litter box.
This is harder with a kitten.
You should physically place your cat into the box, and make it do some strokes with its paws in the litter.
Then you can lock the cat in the room for an hour or more.
Hopefully they would've taken the hint and used the box in the right manner.
It is important to empty the litter box once it is dirty.
Cats are very clean animals and will not use a litter box that smells bad and hasn't been emptied in days.
If they have done their feces away from the box you can move this to were it needs to go, then the cat will gradually realise.
You may have to repeat this process a number of times over the course of a week before the cat fully understands.
