Lavender acts as an astringent and prevents potatoes from sprouting when stored with the vegetable. It is used for culinary purposes and produces purple aromatic flowers known for their calming qualities. The plant produces flowers shaped like spikes that are usually dried and used for craft projects. There are more more than one-hundred varieties of lavender, allowing homeowners to choose the one according to their need. Select a well-draining site with six hours of direct sunlight.

  Another easy and fun herb to grow is basil. The annual plant is cultivated for culinary purposes and aromatherapy thanks to its fresh crisp scent. It features white flowers in long spikes that are cut to fit tiny muslin bag sachets and suspended over a bathtub faucet, or dried and used for potpourri. There are many different varieties of basil available that range in size from compact bush species to tall plants with wide leaves. The leaves are plucked off the plant and added to fresh salads or cooked so they give off their aroma and flavor.
  
  

Chamomile

  The chamomile herb is another easy-to-grow herb that thrives in containers and garden soils alike. The plant produces edible daisy-like flowers that are dried and used for crafts or potpourri, or brewed into tea to relax the mind and cure minor ailments. These flowers are also called earth apples due to their apple-like aroma. The 1- to 2 ½-foot-high plant prefers full sun and well-draining soil.
