How to Find the Area of Irregular Polygons in Square Feet
- 1). Draw lines within the polygon to divide it into regular shapes, like triangle, rectangles or squares.
- 2). Measure each side of each regular polygon using a measuring tape or ruler. Label each side with its measurement.
- 3). Find the area in square feet of each rectangle or triangle you have created. The formula for the area of a rectangle is area = length x width. The formula for the area of a triangle is area = 1/2 x base x height.
- 4). Add the areas of all the rectangles or triangles. The total is the area of the irregular polygon.
