Do-It-Yourself Fall Wedding Save-the-Date Card Ideas
- Surprise your wedding guests with a fall-themed save-the-date card that has a magnetic backing. A save-the-date magnet allows your guests to put your date on their refrigerator, ensuring that they don't forget about your day. Your magnet can be as simple the date and location or as creative as the two of you holding a card with the date of your wedding on it and a short message beneath saying something like, "We hope you can make it!" Buy plain magnets in bulk and glue the shape or photo on the magnet.
- Give your guests a clue to solve by sending out your fall-themed save-the-date cards in puzzle pieces that guests must assemble. Incorporate your fall wedding information on the shape of a leaf, acorn, pumpkin or scarecrow. Include the wedding date on the shape. Print a card for each guest or couple and use spray mount to adhere the cards to pieces of thin wood. Once dry, flip over the wood cards and draw a simple pattern with a pencil that divides your shape into five or six pieces. Use a jigsaw to cut out the pieces, one puzzle at a time. Place each disassembled puzzle into a small envelope that you can mail to guests. When assembled, the puzzle should reveal the date, time and location of your wedding.
- Use fall colors and shapes to distinguish your postcard. Select a fall shape such as the ones mentioned in Section 2 or select a shape that coordinates with your wedding theme such as a book or wine bottle. Glue orange, yellow, red or brown ribbon to the front of your postcard to add texture and design. If your wedding is a destination wedding, you may want your save-the-date card to include a picture of the location and to include a website with more information about hotel and travel information.
- Take a creative picture of yourselves soon after your engagement. For example, have your photos taken in a photo booth at the mall or carnival where a strip of four poses is taken consecutively by a machine. Take a series of photos, using each pose to reveal a piece of your message; for example: "Hi," "We're getting married," "June 9, 2011," "Please come!" Write each piece of the message on a poster and hold it during each pose. Take your finished photo strip to a copy store and reproduce the number of copies needed for the number of guests or couples you plan to invite to your wedding.
