Divorced Fathers Rights

103 31
I was back in the early in the 1990's when I first started to immerse myself into understanding divorced fathers rights as my ex and I were going to our appointment to start the divorce process.
Our break up was amicable...
so I thought, as we pulled up to the office building in separate cars and proceeded to the attorneys' office where the documents were laid neatly in preparation to be signed.
As we sat there waiting for the attorney to copy a few more items I reminded my ex that no matter what the document reads we will always be connected through our children no matter where we live, no matter the situation so we need to communicate with their best interests in mind.
Now, in the past I have heard that divorced fathers rights are somewhat skewed when it comes to the actual documents to be submitted to the courts.
As we both read the 'dissolution of marriage' contract in front of us I thought MY divorced fathers rights were being protected when it came to our kids.
In a way, I was correct.
However, today when I look back at the situation and the complexity and the wording of this document that I was signing and even though it was in front of a non-biased attorney, I really did not understand what the consequences were.
How many times in your life have you looked at a document, especially a divorce agreement, and just signed it without truly understanding the content within? Are your divorced fathers rights really going to be protected? Is any of this going to affect me later on after my divorce? You should be asking yourself these and other tough questions before signing anything...
PERIOD...
because they will affect you later on.
As I look back at my story and how it relates to my divorce it is an "eyebrow raiser" if anything else.
Imagine later on after you get a divorce and your kids decide to want to live with you instead of your ex-wife.
The kids are of an age where they can make their own decisions on this matter.
Now throw in the fact that you were married in one state, got divorced in another state and the ex is living in a totally different state.
My ex refused to work with me regarding the child support payments so I was left trying to resolve the child support payment issue myself.
I was still paying her child support but both of our kids were living with me.
Protecting my divorced fathers rights was a legal nightmare because of this actual scenario.
When I tried to resolve this myself I watched as my bank account started to get smaller and smaller.
For most of us fathers who pay child support I'll just say that it is our obligation, as fathers, to do so.
However, even when I tried having the legal system change my situation It was way out of my pay grade.
Lawyers wanted 2-3000 dollars or more to "Try" to get it resolved.
My divorced fathers rights were being trampled on as there was literally no way that I saw to get out of this short of selling everything off that I owned.
When I finally got my situation resolved through the court system it was through a totally different and unconventional way.
Just imagine if you could harness the power of a law firm anytime you want...
do you think that would make a difference in your life.
Just about everything we do anyway is "legally attached" in some way.
Divorce contracts are a huge one.
Why would you sign anything, especially that, without knowing whats in it? I would like to invite you to click on my website below and hear my quick one minute and 35 second story.
It may open your eyes and quite possibly change your life for the better.
