2009 Tortoiseshell Cats Picture Gallery: Miss Kitty

Miss Kitty was submitted for the Black Cats Picture Gallery, but rightfully belongs here.

Miss Kitty came into my life in April 2009. She appeared to be a stray or maybe someone dropped her off in the neighborhood. She looked hungry so I left food and water out for her. She was only too happy to eat. I had seen her with a bird in her mouth heading for the woods, so I knew she was able to catch her food.

After about 3 days, instead of running when I came up to her, she stayed and let me pet her.

That is when I noticed a hole in her side, obviously from a fight with another animal. I started calling her Miss Kitty instead of "black cat" as I thought it was a more appropriate name. I took her to the vet and had her injury repaired and had her spayed. I had to keep her tied up on the porch for a week for the incisions to heal. I could not bring her into my house as I have an inside cat who would not be comfortable with her.

Fortunately, I have an animal cage that I use for my indoor cat on the porch, so Miss Kitty was able to go inside it and sleep and be warm at night. She adapted really well to this situation. After the week, I took her to have her staples removed and brought her home. When I opened the door to the carrier, she automatically walked into the cage. Then she realized that she was not "attached" any longer and started walking around on the porch.

She now wanders on my property and terrorizes the birds and lizards. I have seen her jump straight up to catch a bird from the bird feeder.

I adore her and am so glad she came into my life and has stayed. As my friend reminds me, "Miss Kitty knows where her life is good."
