How to Set Mute Hotkeys for Skype
- 1). Run Skype. If the Welcome screen launches, close it.
- 2). Click the Tools menu at the top of the screen. Select "Options" to open the Options window.
- 3). Click the "Advanced" button on the left side of the Options window. It is the last button in the list, and has a gear icon next to it. Click the "Hotkeys" button.
- 4). Check the "Enable shortcut keys" box, if it is not already checked.
- 5). Click "Mute Microphone" from the list of available shortcuts.
- 6). Click the "Change selected shortcut" button.
- 7). Type the shortcut key that you want to use for mute. In addition to a letter or number key, you must also use at least one of the function keys: "Shift," "Ctrl," or "Alt." For example, you can make your mute shortcut "Alt" plus "M," or "Ctrl," "Shift" and "P."
- 8). Click "OK" to set the hotkey. Check the box next to "Mute microphone" to enable the hotkey.
- 9). Click the "Save" button to save your settings and close the Options window.
