Natural Ways to Kill Termites

104 3

    Prevention

    • Infestation prevention is a good idea, but not all homeowners are aware of the risks associated with these insects. To prevent infestation, have your home treated every 3 to 5 years with chemicals. These treatments usually come with a warranty that will pay for repairs. Many companies offer natural treatments. Look into this if you want to avoid the use of potentially harmful chemicals.

Other preventive steps include moving wood products away from the foundation of the house. Wood placed against the house is an invitation to termites. They enter the house where the soil meets the foundation. Be sure that all shrubbery is at least 3 to 5 inches from the house. Cracks in the foundation should be filled immediately, and all mold and mildew should be removed.

    Heat Method

    • The heating method is not popular, but if you want to keep the treatment natural it is a good option. For this treatment you will most likely need to contact a termite removal specialist to tent the entire house. After the house is covered by the tent, it is heated it to more than 120 degrees. Termites can't live in temperatures above 120 degrees.

    Boric Acid

    • Boric acid treatments often are very effective. Boric acid is a natural substance and can be purchased at most home improvement stores. Where the termites are entering, spray the outside of the house with acid. Another option is to soak wood stakes in boric acid and put them in the ground as bait. The acid eventually will kill the colony as it spreads from one individual to another.
