Kitchen Inspiration: How to Add Color

101 11
The kitchen has become a multifunctional space; it's where you cook, catch up with family, relax with a cup of coffee and even entertain. This space should reflect your tastes and personality and this can be done by adding color to the kitchen decor. You can find kitchen inspiration from many sources.

Your china collection can be the starting point of your kitchen decor. Reflect the colors of your dinner service or glassware in the kitchen. Kitchen inspiration can come from unexpected sources such as a visit to the farmer's market. The beautiful colors of seasonal produce can be mimicked in your kitchen decor. Cooking in a kitchen inspired by nature's bounty will be delightful. The colors you choose can have a theme such as the bountiful farmer's market theme or you can opt for your favorite hues. Let the kitchen backsplash, cabinetry and the appliances reflect your chosen color palette for a beautiful kitchen you will love spending time in.

It's also easy to add color to your existing kitchen decor with accessories. Rugs are excellent accessories for adding color to the kitchen. Based on the layout of your kitchen, you can choose small rugs or long carpet runners. The runners are perfect for the space between the island and the range while small rugs can be laid under the breakfast table. Striped rugs with multiple shades or rugs with vivid-hued floral patterns can effortlessly infuse color into your cooking space. You can reflect colors already present in your kitchen in these floor accessories. The covers of your cookbooks, enameled cookware and baking dishes, etc. can provide unexpected sources of kitchen inspiration.

If there is a breakfast table in the kitchen or you have an open plan kitchen with dining space, simple kitchen table decorations like tablecloths and placemats can add color to the overall decor. Gingham dinner napkins, floral placemats and striped runners are some wonderful kitchen table decorations that subtly add color and pattern to the kitchen space. Complement these colorful kitchen table decorations with simple floral arrangements. Daises arranged in ceramic milk jug vases or a bunch of wild flowers in recycled glass vases are the perfect colorful touches in dining areas.

A new coat of paint is the easiest way to introduce color to the kitchen. You don't have to repaint the entire kitchen, just a few spots. Painting the back panels of glass-front kitchen cabinets and shelving makes a dramatic backdrop for kitchenware and adds color. The same effect can be achieved with colorful wall paper or patterned shelf paper on pantry shelves and back panels of kitchen cabinets.
