CDL Schools in Atlanta
- To obtain a CDL from Georgia an applicant must pass written tests and a road test. Study the Commercial Driver License manual to prepare for the written tests. All Customer Service Centers, except the Jackson office, offer the written knowledge exams. Once you pass the written tests you will receive your instructional permit and can then attend training school. There are four approved schools in the Atlanta area.
- The Atlanta Truck Driving School (atlantatruckdrivingschool.us) is located in East Point, Ga., five miles from the center of Atlanta. There are two types of CDL classes in Georgia: Class A, 18 wheelers and Class B, trucks with no trailers. ATDS says it tailors training for either class based on a student's area of interest. ATDS offers one-one-on driving training, day, evening and weekend classes, full or part-time training, financial aid/payment plans, job placement at at least 40 hours of driving time.
- America's Driving Force of Georgia (americasdrivingforce.com) is located in Conley, 10 miles from Atlanta. The school puts together a three-week course to obtain your permit, pass the written exams and behind-the wheel training. The first week is designed to obtain your CDL permit. Week two offers driving training on-site learning the basic backing maneuvers. Week three offers on-road training and preparation for the road test.
- The Central Truck Driving Academy (centraltruckdrivingjobs.com) is also in Conley. Central's training runs for either two or three weeks, and the school will finance applicants based on qualifications for the program. Central says students learn how to drive a tractor, shifting a nine-speed transmission, pre-trip inspection, DOT log rules and requirements for becoming an over the road driver. Students are then ready to receive a Class A license.
- The Katlaw Corp. (katlaw.com) is in Austell, 19 miles from Atlanta. Katlaw offers classes for Class A and Class B CDL. The Class A program for tractor trailers is a three week program. The training offers one-week of classroom teaching designed to obtain a permit and two weeks of road instruction to prepare for the state road test. The Class B program is seven days. Three days in the classroom and four days of road instruction.
