103 11
Cats are typically warm and friendly creatures, who enjoy petting, cuddling and purring their way through lazy evenings at home.
But if you have an alpha cat, this is not always the case.
He may not be this amiable.
He may have an agenda of his own and seemingly refuse to take no for an answer.
To gain control of an aggressive feline, here are 3 techniques that can be used.
The Alpha Cat Syndrome Cats with this behavioral issue will often show signs of the following characteristics:
  • Bullying and pressuring you to obey him right away
  • Will only let you touch him when he allows it and for short periods of time
  • Very protective of his food and toys
  • Biting your feet or nose to get you out of bed.
He will also loudly demand to be fed when he wants it and the way he likes it.
  • Turning The Tables To gain control over an aggressive cat, behavior modification is a good technique.
Your furry feline must be shown who's really in charge.
Only then can his bossiness be stopped.
    You can do this by:
  • Not responding to demanding behavior - If your cat tries to bite you or acts aggressively in any way, walk away and ignore him.
If he tries to get you out of bed, shut him out of the bedroom at night.
He will eventually get the picture that you mean business.
  • Using clicker training - Your cat will learn that he gets a treat when he hears the clicker.
Then he will learn that he can make the clicker click by doing certain things when you tell him to.
He will get a click and a treat only if he does what he's told.
Clicker training not only corrects your cat's attitude, it can also improve his health and activity.
  • Rationing the petting - Make your cat work for petting so that he wants your attention.
Pet him only when he does something to deserve it, like sitting quietly when you feed him or obeying a voice command.
Even if he has earned it, be watchful for signs of aggression.
Petting should be short and quick, in case he attacks.
  • An alpha cat can be trained to become docile.
He needs to learn that nothing in life is free and that you are the supplier of all things good.
If he wants good things like food and petting from you, then he better play nice!
