Scholarships for Alabama GED Students
- The Literacy Council (literacy-council.org) offers financial assistance to Alabama residents pursuing a GED. The GED Scholarship program pays for $40 toward the cost of taking the examination. It also helps to pay for a recipient's transportation to and from the test site, as well as any necessary child-care costs. To be eligible, you must demonstrate financial need and either work or live in Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair, Shelby or Walker counties.
- The Alabama School Nutrition Association (Alabamasna.org) offers assistance to ASNA members who wish to pursue their GED through its GED Jump Start Scholarship. The program provides $200 toward the cost of an applicant's study materials, GED preparation classes and the GED test fee.
- Students who have passed the GED in Alabama may be eligible to attend one college class free of charge through the GED One Free Class Scholarship. To be eligible, you must have passed the GED after July 2002 and be a resident of Alabama. This one-time scholarship may only be used at participating two-year community colleges within the state. Submit scholarship applications to the college you are attending.
- Gadsden State Community College (gadsdensstate.edu) offers a GED Scholarship to the student who gets the highest score on the GED test. Gadsden State offers this scholarship twice each year, once at the spring GED graduation and once at the Fall GED graduation. A recipient of this scholarship will receive two full years of education at the college, tuition-free. A recipient must maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 to remain eligible for the full two years.
