Directions for a Spirometer
- 1). Sit in an upright position with the spirometer in an upright position in your lap.
- 2). Place the mouthpiece in your mouth with your lips firmly sealed around it.
- 3). Slowly inhale a deep breath, observing the rise of the piston.
- 4). Hold your breath for five seconds, allowing the piston to fall before exhaling.
- 5). Repeat the process for ten deep breaths with a short rest between each exercise. Adjust the yellow indicator on the side of the pyrometer to record your best effort.
- 6). Perform coughing exercises after using the spirometer if directed.
