    EarthShare

    • EarthShare (earthshare.org), based in Bethesda, is a nonprofit charitable organization that connects individuals and companies with environmental and conservation charities across the United States. With a goal of creating a sustainable environment, it manages the giving campaigns for 71 national organizations as well as hundreds of smaller environment groups in 22 states. In addition, EarthShare offers a variety of ways to donate toward its own work: one-time online donations; introducing an EarthShare campaign at your workplace; planned giving; shopping at the EarthShare online Green Marketplace; and donating used vehicles or electronics to EarthShare. It also collaborates with the EarthAid program, which sends customers checks based on the amount of energy conserved when they lower their energy bills at home. These checks are offered with the suggestion intention of donating back to EarthShare.

    Chesapeake Bay Foundation

    • The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (cbf.org), a nonprofit organization based in Annapolis, has focused on the restoration and protection of Chesapeake Bay and its rivers since the 1970s. Through its variety of environmental programs, it introduces the public to the many benefits of the bay in order to increase awareness and empower citizens toward restoration projects. In some instances, the foundation even uses legal means to enforce the existing environmental regulations. It accepts a wide array of tax-deductible donations that range from one-time donations of $25 that can help plant five native trees to $10,000, which can fund 300 hours of scientific field research within the bay and its tributary rivers. The CBF also offers one- to three-day residential adult programs that explore the bay from its mouth in Virginia to the waterways across the Pennsylvania border.

    Adventure Theatre

    • The Adventure Theater (adventuretheatre.org), located in Glen Echo, is the longest-running children's theater in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Founded in 1951 as a community-based nonprofit organization, it has grown into an award-winning facility that offers a full season of performances, a wide variety of camps and classes as well as ranger-guided tours of the Minnehaha Creek. The organization is supported only by its production and activity sales and by private donations. It offers several giving options that range from one-time $25 donations that help purchase paint to $1,000 or more, which can help built the complete set for one production.

    Rebuilding Together

    • Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County (rebuildingtogetheraac.org) is a nonprofit charitable organization based in Millersville. Since 1991, it has helped repair and renovate more than 330 homes in the county for its low-income and disabled residents. Its wide variety of services range from painting the exteriors of the homes to installing hot water and electrical wiring. It relies completely on private donations, grants and individual monetary donations of as low as $5. Registered Maryland businesses can earn state tax credits for donations of more than $500. In addition to the monetary needs, it is always looking for men and women willing to donate their time especially for those who possess professional-trade skills such as plumbers, carpenters and electricians.
