What Is Time Delay Relay Used For?

104 5

    Shock Absorber

    • Time delay relays, which are often used for starting and controlling functions in building applications and OEM equipment, contain a mechanism designed for shock absorption that attaches to the armature, or the pole piece of an electromagnet. This shock absorber prevents the switch from immediately activating when the electromagnetic coil receives current and energizes, and when it loses current, or de-energizes. This mechanism enables a time-delay in the actuation of the relay.

    Contacts

    • Contacts refer to connectors that close or open to interrupt or allow the flow of current through a circuit. The shock absorption mechanism in the time delay relay enables these contacts to close or open after or before the specified time delay.

    Triggers

    • Time delay relays may be triggered by input voltage, or voltage sent to the input terminals. Time delay relays also activate via the closing or opening of a trigger signal, which can take the form of voltage or a control switch.
